The chimney sweep profession is a find by luck profession. There is only one chimney book out there for someone to learn about the chimney field and it covers a basic understanding of chimney cleaning. The National Chimney Sweep Guild and Chimney Safety Institute offer a one week training course and chimney certification but complete understanding of the chimney profession really comes from years of chimney experience. The best place to find information is at the chimney conventions offered each year by various chimney sweep guilds. The next one is April 18th - 12st.

Hi Ray, I was wondering if you could clear some things up for me. I am selling my home (closing the 17th of this month) The home inspector noted a crack in the rear refractory panel and said it was a safety issue. The company that made my prefab insert is no longer. I was told .... ....you have to replace the whole unit ($5,000). ....IF you can find someone, they will cut one down to fit ($300-600) .....just take it out. It's only for cosmetic purposes & not necessary for safety.($0)
What is your opinion? Dawn

This is a heated topic in the chimney sweep world. I have posted comments on http://chimneychat.proboards43.com/index....read=1192171871 Lots of very intelligent sweeps are saying they cut panels to fit. Ray

Just returned from Reno and the National Chimney Sweep Convention. Had a great time and meet some real nice people. Give a shout if any of you attend the show. Ray
